Today was a very special day: Kitt finished her hat that needed to be felted. She and I wove in a few loose ends – and the masterpiece was ready to go into the hot washing machine to be felted . . . when two ladies showed up at the front door wanting a tour of the alpacas.
I made them wait because Kitt and I were on a mission. A little soap, the top loading machine set at hot wash, cold rinse, small load, the hat in a lingerie bag (to keep the lint at bay) and an old towel tossed in –
The machine did its thing while I was giving a tour.
As if on cue, the wash was done when the visitors were ready to browse the alpaca store.
I took the felted hat out of the bag, stretched it a little and Kitt tried it on. It was a little tight. I retrieved my trusty decorative flower pot (see part of it on the table in picture 1) and forced the hat over it. After a few minutes, I took it off, asked Kitt to put it on, and voila! Perfect fit! I suggested she wear it home and then let it dry completely. She was concerned what the Walmart shoppers might think.
Don’t you agree it turned out great?
