A bunch of Knotty Ladies escaped the valley smoke and spent the day at the Hedges cabin in Rocky Point on their annual quilting retreat. We enjoyed the refreshing rain and cooler temperatures as we reviewed our current projects and planned for the future. The retreat included hot coffee and muffins upon arrival and a delicious pot luck lunch.
The Movie Night basket to be donated to the library fundraiser is almost ready and in the hands of Maxine who will add a couple of items and then shrink-wrap it for display. Dora will take the basket to her library meeting on Friday.
The Wine Picnic basket to be donated to the D-9 foundation shows great promise. It will feature a beautiful wine-themed octagonal table topper. Betty will do the assembling and quilting. Carol Kato will add the binding. Other items already in the wicker picnic basket include 2 wine-themed bar towels, 2 wine bottle tealites, 4 lucite wine glasses, a bottle of cabernet sauvignon, and a tin of smoked oysters. Yet to come are 4 wineglass charms (Maxine), a bottle of white wine (Betty), breadsticks, smoked almonds, fancy crackers, a wine opener, a recipe book (or other related book), wine-themed cocktail napkins, cookies, Laughing Cow and Old English cheeses, and a cheese spreader. Betty has offered to shop for the food items. Dora has offered to shop for the remaining items. Meridel has the basket and will collect the various purchases and donated items as people drop them off. Our contact person for this basket is Lindsey Troutman who would like to receive our inventory as soon as we are able to send it to her. This fundraiser will be held on September 7.
Rocky Point Quilt gave us a stack of new fabrics that did not fit their projects. Our members selected what they thought they would use. The remainder will go to Goodwill. As always, there were quilted show and tell projects to be shared. Dora’s quilt in memory of her late husband was especially fetching.
The Ladies will meet next on September 4 at Lydia’s home.
