Knotty Ladies March Report

March 6, 2014 by Meridel Hedges

Maxine was the hostess for the March meeting of the Knotty Ladies. New member Linda Townsend was welcomed and given one of our business cards. Betty will make an official membership card for Linda. It is good to have Betty back in Eagle Point and once again active in our group.
The Quilts of Valor project has produced two completed quilts and one in the works. Lydia will coordinate the donation of these quilts to our local Veterans’ Rehabilitation Center. Watch for her e-mail telling us the date and time. Ida Tolmie, who donated the center part of one of the quilts will be invited to join us when we deliver the quilts. Meridel, with a little help from Betty, will prepare a personal thank you card for Grandma Mitchell who donated her machine quilting skills to one of the projects.
Having accepted an invitation to organize a quilting booth at the Vintage Faire in May, we began to make plans. We will work in two-hour shifts, possibly sharing the booth with the Piecemakers if they are interested. Dora (in costume) will work from 10:00 to 12:00, Betty from 12:00 to 2:00, and Linda from 2:00 to 4:00. The remainder of our members will fill in as our schedules allow. We’ll need extra help setting up and taking down the booth for 30 minutes to an hour before and 30 minutes after the faire. Members are encouraged to create small items that will sell for $5 or less and donate them to our booth. Proceeds will go to our treasury and will be used to purchase future materials for our charity projects. Dora has made several handle covers for cast iron skillets. Carol has made some microwave potholders. Meridel will work on chicken pot holders. It will be fun to see what we produce for this event. Dora has a cash box, Maxine has a Singer featherweight machine, Lydia has an umbrella and stand if we are in the sun, Betty has a vintage quilt to drape over our table, and Meridel will bring a cooler with ice and bottled water. We may need a couple of folding chairs as well. We will finalize our plans at the April meeting. In the meantime, Betty will do some machine embroidering to make nametags for our members.
Show and tell was, as always, a special treat. We admired a number of baby quilts ready to be donated, works in progress, a table runner made from circles, and a special comfort pillow (thank you, Dora). A lengthy discussion of everything from cooking mishaps to everyone’s health ensued.
The Ladies will meet on April 2 at Meridel’s home (or possibly Linda’s home). Watch for that e-mail.
