The Knotty Ladies attended their annual quilting retreat at the Hedges cabin on August 6. Dora gave a treasurer’s report stating that we are solvent. The quilt frame that Carol Kato and Bill constructed has been paid for. Several members displayed their fun show and tell projects. Bags of donated fabric and batting as well as a collection of quilt magazines were laid out for the members to take whatever appealed to them.
Lydia and Dora reported that they had delivered a bundle of baby quilts and blankets to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Our collection of quilts for recovering military personnel received an addition, a crocheted throw donated by a member of EPWC. The plan is to seek permission from the VA Rehabilitation Center in White City to deliver all of these quilts after our September meeting which will be brief.
Since we did not learn about the EPWC Members’ Market until too late to organize our wares, we will forego it this time and just be shoppers. We will participate in the D9 Foundation auction which is September 6-7 and we will donate a “Coffee Break” basket. Anyone wishing to add to our basket should turn in the items by August 20 or at least let Meridel know what you are planning to turn in. The Foundation’s official list of auction items goes to press on August 27 and they would like to have a list of the contents of our gift basket and the estimated value. The basket itself can be turned it to them the day before the auction so we have plenty of time to arrange it after all the contents are collected. Drop your items off at Meridel’s house before August 27 (granddaughters arrive that day and the security of the items cannot be guaranteed after that). Our list of suggested items to purchase or donate is as follows:
After the business meeting, Linda demonstrated how to make a simple “exploding” quilt block. Everyone made several of these blocks and Linda offered to put them together for a baby quilt. Then all the quilters worked on projects of their own. Pot luck lunch was well received, but the highlight was a fresh peach pie made especially for the Knotty Ladies by Bill Harrison. Everyone went away happy.
The Ladies’ next meeting will be on September 3 at Lydia’s house.
