On October 7, seven book club members gathered to discuss Rosenelle Florencechild’s book club selection, Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor. Using stories told by his parents and grandparents, the author traced their history from pre-Revolutionary Mexico, the uprooting of family and destruction of village life during the revolution of 1910, and their struggle to survive as they traveled north to California. The hardships they endured made them stronger as a family and reinforced the importance of love, faith, and the miracles of life. During the discussion, the strength of women, and of mothers in particular, resonated with the book club members.
