We discussed ‘The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah. The novel is the story of two sisters living in German occupied France. Isabelle, the younger one is rebellious and joins the resistance in Paris and eventually leads downed Allied pilots on an escape route over the Pyrennes to Spain. Viann whose soldier husband is sent to a prisoner of war camp struggles to survive in a small French village. Both sisters risk their lives to help others during times of great peril. The memorable quote is, “In love we find out who we want to be. In war we find out who we are.”
Book club members gave the book a thumbs up and advised having kleenex nearby to catch the tears!
