The book group’s July meeting was held at Sheris Fine’s home and the nine ladies present had a lively conversation about The Little Book by Selden Edwards. An interesting point about this book is that the author started writing the book in 1974 and it was published in 2009. He wrote the book over a span of 30 years. He was a head school master in private schools, as was the main character in the book. It brought true authenticity to the book.
The Little Book is the extraordinary tale of Wheeler Burden, California–exiled heir of the famous Boston banking Burdens, philosopher, student of history, legend’s son, rock idol, writer, lover of women, recluse, half-Jew, and Harvard baseball hero. In 1988 he is forty-seven, living in San Francisco, suddenly he is still his modern self – wandering in a city and time he knows mysteriously arrives in Vienna and it is 1897, precisely ninety-one years before his last memory and a half-century before his birth.
