In BURY YOUR DEAD, it’s winter carnival in Quebec City and Chief Inspector Gamache has come not to join the festivities but to recover from an investigation gone hauntingly wrong. This is Louise Penny’s 6th novel in a series about Gamache. Much of the action in BURY YOUR DEAD takes place in the Literary and Historical Society library in old Quebec City. Old Quebec is vividly described in the novel. We could all feel the magic of the city and the cold of it’s winter. Ten ladies gathered at the home of Susan Watson and nibbled on french pasties; pain au chocolat and croissants aux amondes. We brushed up on our french phrasings and learned about the history of New France, Canada’s French and English beginnings and the tension that still exits.

Thanks so much for your submission, Susan! I appreciate your thoughtful post and attention to detail. We definitely had a most provocative discussion. The photos you shared with the group of your excursion to Old Quebec City really enlightened our visualization of this famous historical site.
