It is time to announce our February outing. Bonnie Scriba is the outing planner for this one. A big thank you to her for coming up with a great idea when our original plan did not pan out. On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, we will be going to the Jackson County Genealogy Library for a historical quilt & genealogy talk. Anne Billeter, of the Jackson County Genealogy Library, will give the presentation.
Anne will give a 1 hour presentation about Maryum Bowen McKee’s Yellow Rose. This is a story of the McKees, told through a quilt designed by a descendant and expanded through genealogical research. Maryum came to the Applegate in 1853 from Missouri with her husband and 2 children. The McKee’s were one of the founding families in the Rogue Valley/Applegate area. The McKee covered bridge outside of Ruch is on land donated by descendant Aldelbert "Deb" McKee. You don’t have to be a quilter to enjoy this beautiful quilt and story!
While there is no fee for the presentation, a $3.00 donation from each attendee will be a nice way to support the Genealogy Library.
After the presentation, we will dine at Luna Mexican Cafe (in the strip mall between Harry & David’s and Cottage Quilts). They serve authentic homestyle mexican food, with lunch menu offerings for $10.95. Their menu can accommodate most dietary requests.
The presentation begins at 10:30 a.m. so we will meet in the Walmart parking lot (area closest to Carl’s) at 9:45 a.m.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Elaine Slate.
If will be a fascinating story, hope can join us.
