July Book Club met at the home of Virginia Felker. We discussed the book 'Leaving Time' by Jodi Picoult. One of the major themes of Leaving Time is loss and how to cope with it. The book led us to solve why the daughter's mother left her and never contacted her again. The story also was about what elephants remember and what they forget. Also the story touched on the Tennessee Elephant sanctuary where they rescue elephants in need. We reviewed pictures of several elephants on their grounds. There is also a live web cam where you can occasionally spot one or two. The author has written several dozen novels and also wrote several issues of Wonder Woman. We thought we saw a picture of her at the Elephant sanctuary out of costume. Turns out it was Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann in Gilligan's Island. She was a long time sanctuary supporter.
