On a wintry Tuesday afternoon nine avid readers cozied up at the home of Wyn Lewis to discuss The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate. The book was selected by Kate Coggin who was not able to join us. Wyn graciously opened her home after adjustments in the venue were needed. Sasha Weber our team leader has been keeping the group updated on the book selections and host rotation. We're thrilled that Sasha has taker over as chair of our little group.
As our host, Wyn posed excellent questions which prompted a lively discussion. Everyone enjoyed the author's style of writing bringing the time of America South's emancipation to life. The book paralleled two story lines; one set in1875 and one more modern 1987. Actual ”Lost Friends” advertisements that appeared in Southern newspapers after the Civil War touched our hearts and brought authenticity to the book. Both stories melded into a single concept of the haves and have nots in society and the courage and strength of women. It was a great read which we all would recommend to others.
