The May Book Group met at the home of Virginia Felker to discuss 'The Secret Life of Sunflowers' by Marta Molin. We got to peer into the life of Vincent Van Gogh thru the eyes of his sister-in-law Johanna Bonger. She single handedly saved his work from being forgotten or destroyed and brought his legacy to the world.
We learned Vincent had his presumed dark periods painting in mostly brown tones. And then he began his lighter and more vibrant works which was when the bright colors of sunflowers surfaced. Several library books of Vincent's works were available to show the scope and diversity of his work.
Everyone enjoyed some refreshments and a catch up after the discussion. Some of the group walked thru Felker's gardens which are showing strong spring color, but alas no sunflowers yet.
