On July 20, 2026, ten members of the New Book Buddies crammed around Martha Roy’s dining table to rave about the book and the movie, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. The characters were so well drawn we forgave the author for her first-novel plot stumbles and for calling 70 year olds decrepit. Forty year old writers lack perspective. Most of us were annoyed by script changes, but it made a great movie. The octopus didn’t get as many lines as he deserved. We were split on the change to the ending. Read it and watch it. Enjoy it.
Our August read is Wicked. The book/movie comparison should make for another lively discussion.
