Book club gathered at Lynn Leissler’s for a discussion of What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. 39-yr old Alice Love falls off an exercise bike at a spin class, bonks her head and instantly loses ten years of her life. She thinks she is pregnant with her first child, she hates exercise, she is deliriously in love with her husband Nick, and they are fixing up a rundown old house. In reality, she has three children, she is addicted to exercise, she and Nick are separated and the house is done and perfect. She has become someone she doesn’t recognize. Her mother has remarried—shocking her, her sister has struggled for years with infertility and everyone talks about Gina. Alice feels that if she can figure out why each piece of the story circles back to Gina, she will retrieve her memory. Eventually her memory returns, and she settles into a life with good parts of the old Alice, while tossing the witchy new Alice pieces. She and Nick reconcile, although the process is not romance-novel quick and easy. Lynn first asked each woman to tell what is in her life now that wasn’t there ten years ago. Interesting discussions of life! A good read, thought provoking.
