Six of us had a good workout Friday, Aug. 16 as we hiked Mount Scott, the highest peak (8928 ft.) in Crater Lake National Park. The 5 miles round-trip hike was moderately difficult with about 1200 feet elevation gain, but the views of Crater Lake, Mt. Thielsen , Union Peak, and the Klamath Basin were well worth the effort. Although it was a bit hazy from the smoke, we enjoyed the magnificent panoramic view of Crater Lake from the summit while eating our lunch. We also hiked about a mile on The Pinnacles Trail to view the volcanic spires. The Pinnacles are chimneys formed when hot ash cooled after the volcano erupted.
