Hostesses Sonya Andrews and Maxine Williams set beautiful tables and created hand-lettered signs for the wonderful dishes that 12 Culinary Arts group members prepared, discussed and enjoyed. All of the recipes utilized came from one of the many cookbooks authored by Barbara Kafta. The theme centered around hearty soups, but also included wonderful appetizers, salads, savory pastries and mouth-watering desserts. Each cook described her recipe, its ingredients and special preparation challenges and then shared it with the group to taste. Some of the dishes that we enjoyed were: celery root, smoked mozzarella and prosciutto salad, ginger scallop soup, gougeres and raspberry=chocolate gypsy bundles. Tips on where to find unusual ingredients and on how to use these ingredients was a helpful topic of discussion. Each bite was savored along with the delightful company and conversation.
