24 wonderful cooks gathered at two homes on October 10 to savor a lunch featuring fine Southern Cuisine and to learn some history of cooking influences in that area. Linda Haynsworth-Kruger and Susan Watson planned the menu, selected the recipes and hosted a group of 12 at Linda’s home. Joyce Lingren and Viki Brown coordinated the same menu for 12 more at Joyce’s home. Starting with boiled peanuts and pimento cheese we worked our way through shrimp creole, crab cakes, hoppin john, Carolina Gold rice and more, finishing up with hummingbird cupcakes. Lemon blueberry sweet tea, mint juleps and mint julep tea were the special beverages that accompanied the meal. We all appreciate the time and effort expended by the hosts and the special stories of food and life in the South shared by Linda. Thanks to all who participated.
