A total of 26 women gathered at two homes on Feb. 13 to explore the interesting world of cooking with a variety of citrus fruits. Host homes were Viki Brown and Nancy with Sharyn Close and Liz Crossman serving as co-hosts. The hosts had selected a total of 10 recipes featuring citrus that were assigned to the members attending. The recipe was prepared by the members at home and then brought to the lunch to share and discuss with the group. Recipes ranged from pork tenderloin/ pink grapefruit skewers to blood orange upside down cake and beet, clementine and baby spinach salad. A brief history of the history of the cultivation of citrus fruit around the world and the use of citrus in cooking was provided by the hosts. Each cook described the preparation of their culinary masterpiece and gave any special tips of interest as we enjoyed the food. Since citrus is abundant in the winter in this area, we had minimal issues with finding needed fresh ingredients. We all enjoyed the food and fellowship and some yummy citrus beverages too. Great job everyone. Next lunch will be April 9 and will feature Power Bowls.
