Twelve members gathered at the home of Ruth Jenks this week for a vegetarian lunch created from recipes in the original Moosewood Cookbook. Sharyn Close served as co-host and together she and Ruth brightened the dining tables and kitchen with festive St. Patrick’s Day decorations, dishes and napkins. A menu of 10 recipes was created by Ruth and Sharyn from the selected cookbook and each guest prepared and brought her dish to share with the group. The original Moosewood Cookbook was published in 1973 and was hand-written and illustrated by author Mollie Katzen. The recipes came from the Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca, New York which highlighted vegetarian dishes with an international flair. Each guest discussed her recipe and highlighted preparation of ingredients and any challenges encountered. Each dish was flavorful, interesting and satisfying. A few examples are: Cauliflower Cheese Pie with Shredded Potato Crust, Balkan Cucumber Salad, Gypsy Soup and Baba Ganouj (eggplant dip). A big thank you to Ruth and Sharyn and all the guest cooks. We meet next in May with a menu from “Once Upon a Chef”.
