There wasn’t a dull moment for our Hiking Group at Lava Beds National Monument. Four of us explored five lava tube caves, climbed a spatter cone, hiked in a Modoc War site, and viewed and identified a variety of birds on Tulelake. Since only one cave is lit inside, we depended on our headlamps and flashlights as we walked very carefully on uneven surfaces and ducked to avoid hitting our heads. The caves vary in length and difficulty and we definitely felt most comfortable in those least challenging. There is something for everyone at this National Monument!
