Six of us enjoyed about a 6.3 mile hike on the Pacific Crest Trail at Mt. Ashland Meadows on Friday, September 15. We started from Mt. Ashland Rd. through a forest of grand fir and Shasta red fir. The trail broke into a large meadow after about 1/2 mile and then alternated between forest and four additional meadows. This hike was scheduled for August when the meadows were ablaze with numerous varieties of wildflowers; however, Gerene canceled it due to the wildfires in northern CA and unhealthy air quality. We met several thru-hikers and enjoyed chatting with a young couple from Germany, hiking with their 2-yr. old Irish Setter, who had started at Canadian border heading toward Mexico. They loved the PCT trails in Oregon! Enjoying exercise, nature, and camaraderie with friends is the best day ever!
