This hike was almost destined not to happen, with the scheduled hike leader unavailable and the scheduled trail covered in fresh snow. Fortunately, a new leader and trail emerged and the chilly morning turned into a beautiful, sunny spring day. Viki Brown led the group of 6 members and one guest (Rebecca) on the Lower Table Rock Trail for a 5.5 mile hike with a few miles of aerobic, uphill climbing. We started the hike by walking the newly-completed 1/2 mile oak savannah trail which is paved and accessible for wheelchairs and walkers. It features benches, shade, nice views and a picnic area where people with mobility challenges can enjoy the outdoors. Once we arrived on the top of the Table Rock , we were treated to massive fields of wildflowers, incredible views and scatterned vernal pools. We enjoyed a relaxing lunch break with views of the orchards and other countryside below. Conversation was varied and comfortable and the time together drifted by easily. Thanks to Lori Miles for the photographs and to Melanie Harris and Theresa Whaley for driving. We'll see you on the trail next month.
