The EPWC has a long tradition of participation in the amazing 4th of July parade held in downtown Eagle Point each year and many times coming home with a trophy. For many years the parade entry was a large float that was lovingly decorated at the home of Maxine Williams, former EWC president, and driven in the parade by Steve Schanck, husband of former EPWC president, Gayle Schanck. That was followed by a few years of a marching kazoo band which was lots of fun. As members got older and less tolerant of the heat, we decorated a trolley and filled it up with members to ride in the parade. We have not had a parade entry since pre-Covid, but this was an extra-special year with the 250th birthday celebration for the USA. President, Liz Crossman, did some very fast organizing of our parade entry for this year: the decorated golf cart brigade. Liz coordinated with the Eagle Point Golf Club for co-sponsorship of the entry with loan of some golf carts and a spot to do decorating. The remaining carts belonged to Club members who decorated them and drove them in the parade. Two husbands, Mike Smith and John Buckley, carried the Golf Club and Resort banner in the parade and Ruth Jenks and Kamie Liston carried the EPWC banner. The lead cart in our caravan belonged to member, Patty Jensen, who with Denise Fikes, Board member, turned the cart into a true showpiece. Check out the photos. The 250th birthday cake topping the roof of their cart was amazing and never threatened to blow away. The cart caravan drove from the golf course on residential streets down to the start point at the high school providing a mini-parade for the many people out in their yards cheering us on. The awards for the parade have not been announced yet, but we all feel like winners. A huge thanks to board member, Becky Newell and her mom, Kay Roggenbuck, who staffed an EPWC booth on the parade route all morning spreading the word about our great club. Thanks to Liz and all who participated in the event in some way. Thanks also to Gerene Leffingwell and Viki Brown for photos.
